The Public Service Commission regularly hosts meetings, briefings, and hearing related to cases open before the agency, all of which are broadcast to the public and many of which may be of interest to you as a utility ratepayer. Below is a partial schedule of upcoming events:

  • On February 16th at 2:30 p.m., the PSC will host an allowable ex parte briefing with the South Carolina Public Service Authority (Santee Cooper) to learn about the company’s 2020 Comprehensive Integrated Resource Plan (among other topics). An allowable ex parte briefing is a type of meeting in which the Commissioners of the Public Service Commission can hear from organizations or individuals who are involved in a case before the Commission or a case that’s likely to come before the Commission. Watch this briefing live at this link.
  • On March 21st and 23rd, the PSC will host a virtual/in-person public hearing in Docket No. 2021-324-WS, which relates to Kiawah Island Utility, Inc.’s request to file proposed changes in rates, charges, classifications, and/or regulations for water and sewer service. The company is seeking an increase of 15.17-15.19% in their current rates. If you’re a Kiawah Island Utility customer and would like to speak before the Commission, you can do so either in-person or virtually at these hearings. Here’s how:
    • Decide whether you want to testify over the phone or come to the Commission’s offices (101 Executive Center Drive, Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29210). Whichever you choose, you’ll need to email the Commission at communications@psc.sc.gov or call 803.896.5133 before 4 p.m. on March 18th. When you call or email, please provide your name, the telephone number you want to be called back at when it’s your turn to speak, your home address, and whether you want to testify over the phone or in person. You can also fill out the survey at this link to sign up.
    • If you’re not interested in testifying, you can watch the livestream of the hearing at this link or can call in to listen at 1-855-797-9485 (enter code 2317 806 6099 when prompted). The hearings will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on the 21st and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on the 23rd.
  • The Commission hosts a weekly Commission Business Meeting, during which Commissioners discuss matters before the Commission and the outcome of dockets. These are generally held every Thursday at 2 p.m. (or at the call of the Chairman in some instances) and are livestreamed to the public at this link. Meetings are scheduled for the following dates: February 24th and March 10th, 24th, and 31st.
