PSC Issues Two Transportation-Related Orders

Wed, 06/15/2022

Last week, the PSC issued two Commission Orders--which are official opinions that enact certain regulations and rules directly from the Commissioners--involving transportation companies.

The first, Order No. 2022-405, requires all current Motor Carrier Certificate Holders (that is, transportation companies) to notify the Public Service Commission if they want to amend their existing certificate to read "Statewide Authority."

The second Order, Order No. 2022-407, sets forth that all current rates for Class E companies that have been approved by the PSC and posted on the PSC's website prior to May 23rd, 2022 are considered the companies' Maximum Rates. "Class E" is the Household Goods designation, meaning that Order No. 2022-407 pertains to moving companies. As a consumer, what this means is that you can research the rates of transportation companies more thoroughly and easily--in fact, the PSC has recently created a database of the Maximum Rates for Class E companies, which you can find at this link

If you want to watch footage of the meeting at which these matters were discussed, you can do so at this link. That video will start in the middle of the meeting, right as Commissioners talk about these issues. Contact us for more information at robert.bockman@psc.sc.gov or call 803.896.5100.
